Mechanical Department
Mechanics of Solids & Metallurgy Laboratory
Study of mechanical properties, strength, deformation, hardness, impact, torsion, and metallurgical characteristics of engineering materials through various testing and microscopic techniques.
Lab Overview
The Mechanics of Solids & Metallurgy Laboratory is a well-equipped facility that provides students with hands-on experience in the mechanical testing and metallurgical examination of engineering materials. The laboratory includes a comprehensive range of equipment such as Universal Testing Machine, Digital Torsion Testing Machine, Izod and Charpy Impact Testing Machine, Rockwell and Brinell Hardness Testing Machine, Spring Testing Machine, Direct Shear Apparatus, and Beam Deflection Apparatus.
The laboratory also provides facilities for metallurgical studies using trinocular and binocular microscopes, double disc polishing equipment, Jominy End Quench Apparatus, and Muffle Furnace. These facilities enable students to understand the mechanical behaviour, strength, hardness, toughness, deformation, heat treatment, and microstructural characteristics of engineering materials through experimentation and analysis.
The laboratory helps students develop practical, analytical, and problem-solving skills in material testing, mechanics of solids, metallurgical examination, and engineering material characterization.
